Individual Education Plans

Individual Education Plans (IEP)

Every year, an IEP is drawn up for each pupil by his/her class teacher. The teacher gathers information from parents, the school nurse, therapists, clinicians and any other relevant staff members who work with the pupils. The teacher uses this information, along with information from reports and assessments to establish learning goals for pupils to work towards in the current academic year. These goals are mainly related to the school curriculum but could also include goals that involve the input and support of therapists or clinicians. A leaflet containing more detailed information is included in the induction pack for parents of new pupils.

The IEP meetings take place in October or November every year. The teacher contacts all parents personally to obtain information to help in the planning of their child’s IEP goals and to invite them to attend the IEP meeting. Towards the end of the school year, the teacher meets with parents again to review the progress made by their child towards achieving the goals set out in the IEP.
