Multi-Disciplinary Team

20-June-17

Members of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) in the school work to provide in-class support and advice as the need arises and occasionally see pupils on an individual basis. The MDT may consist of School Nurse, Physiotherapist, Speech and Language Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Psychologist, Social Worker, Play Therapist, Dietitian (as required), School Principal, Teacher and Special Needs Assistants (SNA).

The MDT meets every Tuesday to discuss and review individual pupils' educational and health care needs, to plan interventions and to address any current issues. Members of the MDT work closely together to ensure that relevant information is shared and that the expertise of all professionals involved is coordinated in the best interests of pupils. This ensures that education and health care plans are integrated for pupils both at home and in school and that these plans are assessed and reviewed on a regular basis.

Parents may have the opportunity to meet some members of the MDT at their child's Individual Education Plan (IEP) meeting early in the school year. In the case that parents have any particular concerns, they are encouraged to make direct contact with individual members of their child's multi-disciplinary team or to make a request to attend the IEP meeting.
